Kaffrine : les Douanes détruisent une importante quantité de produits prohibés
The Kaffrine Customs Subdivision, under the Central Regional Customs Directorate, proceeded on Tuesday to incinerate several prohibited and dangerous products, the equivalent value of which is estimated at more than 1.634 billion CFA francs.
The destroyed goods included 10.5 tons of counterfeit medicines, 200 kilograms of cannabis, 114 million CFA francs in counterfeit banknotes, and 8 tons of prohibited plastic bags. These seizures were carried out by customs units in Kaffrine as part of ongoing surveillance and anti-trafficking operations.

The ceremony was presided over by the governor of the Kaffrine region, Babacar Kane, in the presence of the public prosecutor at the High Court of Kaffrine, Cheikh Faye, the head of the Kaffrine Customs Subdivision, Mouhamadou Moussa Guissé, as well as representatives of the defense and security forces.
This operation is part of the preparations for the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on June 26. Authorities reiterated the close links between drug trafficking and the illicit trade in medicines.
According to Customs officials, some substances presented as pharmaceuticals are in fact synthetic drugs, including ketamine, methamphetamine, and other narcotics. Customs authorities therefore emphasize the need to strengthen the fight against this trafficking, which is considered a threat to public health, security, and the national economy.
