Kafountine : 34 migrants, dont une femme avec ses deux enfants, interceptés lors d’une tentative de migration irrégulière
On the night of August 26-27, 2025, at around 3 a.m., 34 people, including 25 Senegalese and Gambians, as well as 9 other individuals, including Mauritanians, were arrested in Kafountine by the gendarmerie brigade led by Commander Coly Ngom. These would-be irregular migrants were preparing to board a pirogue to reach Europe. According to the mayor of Kafountine, David Diatta, this successful operation is the result of close collaboration between the local population and the national gendarmerie, reinforced by a monitoring committee dedicated to the fight against this scourge.
"The boat was positioned for imminent departure, but the gendarmes discreetly executed their plan, apprehending the migrants without incident," he explained.
Among the 34 arrested were four women (two Senegalese, one Gambian, and one Mauritanian), one of whom was accompanied by her two minor children, a girl and a boy. All are currently in custody at the Kafountine gendarmerie brigade. The smugglers and accomplices, who were not at the scene, have not been arrested, but investigations are continuing to identify them.
