A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist yesterday, Tuesday, in Kaolack. The tragedy occurred near the guards' camp, involving a pickup truck and a Jakarta motorcycle.

On the night of Tuesday, October 1, 2025, at around 4:50 a.m., the Kaolack central police station was alerted to a fatal accident on Diogoye Basil Senghor Avenue. At the scene, police officers observed a collision between a van and a Jakarta motorcycle.

The circumstances of the tragedy

According to initial investigations, the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on Diogoye Basil Senghor Avenue. The van, driven by 24-year-old A. Mbaye, was heading from Kabatoki toward the city center, while the Jakarta motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction.

Arriving at the guards' camp, the motorcycle driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and ended up on the opposite side of the road. Despite an attempt to swerve, the van driver was unable to prevent the head-on collision, according to Seneweb sources.

The collision was fatal for B. Kama, a 30-year-old mason from Ngane. The thirty-year-old died instantly. Witnesses at the scene indicated that the motorcycle caught fire after the accident. According to witnesses at the scene, the fire was caused by beer cans the victim was carrying.

The motorcyclist's lifeless body was taken by firefighters to the morgue of El Hadji Ibrahima Niass hospital for autopsy.

Van driver in custody

A. Mbaye, who holds a valid driving license covering several vehicle categories, was taken into custody for manslaughter in a road traffic accident. The vehicle he was driving was in good standing with regard to insurance and a technical inspection.

The prosecutor was informed of the accident and an investigation was opened to determine the exact responsibilities for this tragedy.
