Karang : deux passeurs d'émigrés clandestins déférés au parquet de Fatick
As part of border surveillance and control, a joint patrol composed of elements of the DNLT's Surveillance, Infiltration and Tracking Brigade (BSIF) and the Gambian Immigration Police apprehended a group of would-be illegal immigrants gathered in a house located on the border on April 29, 2026, following information obtained as part of the DNLT procedure in Karang on April 27, 2026.
Among those arrested, two organizers were identified: B. Deme alias Baye Fall, 48 years old, a carpenter and cabinetmaker residing in Kaolack, and MS Camara, 42 years old, a sculptor residing in Guédiawaye.
When questioned, the two accused readily admitted to recruiting and organizing individuals seeking to emigrate illegally. B. Deme revealed that he had organized the project in collaboration with a certain Arona Sow, based in Spain, a man named Souty Sadio from Bambaly, and a man named Youssou, originally from Saloum.
He specified that a Gambian national named Souleymane had contributed to the recruitment of the majority of the candidates in connection with Arona Sow, who allegedly financed the purchase of the pirogue and an engine from Spain, while also recruiting captains from Saint-Louis. B. Deme also admitted to having bought the fuel necessary for the voyage with the money from the candidates, which was collected by his accomplice.
For his part, MS Camara admitted to recruiting about ten candidates and collecting the sum of 4,000,000 CFA francs which he paid to B. Deme, while acknowledging that he received a commission of 500,000 CFA francs.
The two organizers were brought before the public prosecutor at the High Court of Fatick on May 4, 2026.
