A regional development committee (CRD) dedicated to launching the process of developing local security diagnoses and sharing methodological tools was organized this Tuesday in Kédougou. This step is considered crucial in operationalizing the concept of security governance, through the establishment of local security and prevention committees.

The initiative, led by the Community Security Agency (ASP), aims to equip each department with structures capable of identifying and preventing security threats. The Saraya department, particularly exposed to illegal activities linked to clandestine gold mining, deforestation, and certain practices such as prostitution, is at the heart of this dynamic.

Chairing the meeting, the deputy governor in charge of development, Mouhamadoul Moustapha Gaye, stressed the importance of the approach: "We must build a local, inclusive and participatory approach. This local diagnosis will allow us to better understand the realities on the ground and provide solutions adapted to the specific security challenges of each locality."

He also invited mayors and community stakeholders to take ownership of the process to ensure its success.

For his part, the Director General of the ASP, Omar Touré, emphasized the civic dimension of the project: "The State cannot do everything alone. Security must be a shared affair. By establishing these local committees, we are giving populations the opportunity to actively participate in the prevention and management of threats. It is a way of empowering communities and strengthening trust between citizens and defense and security forces."

The mayors present at the CRD unanimously welcomed the initiative and expressed their commitment to supporting the process. According to them, the establishment of local security committees will not only help reduce threats related to gold mining and crime, but also strengthen social cohesion and public order.

Kédougou is thus part of a new dynamic where security is no longer just a prerogative of the police, but a responsibility shared between administrative authorities, local communities and citizens.
