Kédougou : un réseau présumé de trafic de migrants impliquant des mineurs démantelé par la SR

The Kédougou Research Section arrested a Burkinabe national suspected of migrant smuggling and human trafficking, as part of an investigation into the exploitation of young people in the region's illegal gold mining sites.

The suspect, Didier Kaboré, in his thirties and residing in Tenkoto, was taken into custody. Five other individuals, including several minors aged 15 to 17, were also detained for investigative purposes.

According to information gathered by Seneweb, the victims were intercepted on February 19, 2026, as they entered Senegal from Mali. They were allegedly taken to work at illegal gold mining sites in exchange for monthly wages.

The individuals involved, aged 16 to 24, stated that they were from the same family originally from Burkina Faso. According to their testimonies, their journey was organized by their parents in collaboration with Didier Kaboré, who was responsible for picking them up at the Senegalese-Malian border, specifically in the town of Dabia.

When questioned by investigators, Didier Kaboré admitted to receiving the young migrants. He explained that he was to act as their boss once they were settled at the gold mining sites, specifying that the monthly wages, estimated at 50,000 CFA francs, were to be sent directly to their parents who remained in Burkina Faso.

The suspect also cited the difficult security situation in his country of origin to justify sending young family members to other countries in the sub-region to financially support their relatives.

Investigations are continuing to determine the exact responsibilities in this case, particularly regarding possible ramifications linked to exploitation networks in the clandestine gold mining areas of the Kédougou region, which regularly faces migratory flows linked to gold mining activity.
