Kédougou : un 4 avril placé sous le signe de l’unité nationale et de l’engagement citoyen
At the end of the parade marking the celebration of Independence Day on April 4, the governor of the Kédougou region, Mariama Traoré, addressed the population in a speech full of pride, gratitude and a call for collective mobilization.

From the outset, the administrative authority praised the quality of the ceremony's organization, describing it as "a reflection of exemplary collective commitment." It extended its congratulations to the command of the 34th Infantry Battalion and to all the defense and security forces for their rigor, discipline, and professionalism.
The parade, which brought together a total of 1,350 participants, including 876 civilians and more than 500 military personnel divided between infantry and motorized units, was presented as a highlight of national pride. "Through their uniforms, their synchronization, and their commitment, the various detachments honored our flag," the governor emphasized, highlighting the remarkable support of the local population and key stakeholders.
Among the highlights of this celebration, the motorized parade particularly garnered attention for the diversity of vehicles on display and the quality of its execution. The participation of fishermen and socio-professional stakeholders also illustrated, according to her, "the unity and complementarity of the forces that sustain the region." The artistic performances, notably those of the gymnasts and the theater troupe, added an educational and cultural dimension to the event.

Returning to this year's theme, which focuses on the role of the armed forces as partners in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the governor emphasized the strategic importance of this historic event for Senegal and for Africa. She reiterated that the success of these Games depends not only on quality infrastructure, but also on a secure and well-organized environment.
In this context, she emphasized the central role of the armed forces, called upon to guarantee security, support logistics, and strengthen the country's international credibility. "Their commitment now extends beyond the strictly military framework to encompass a logic of service to the nation," she stated.
Beyond the organizational challenges, the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, she believes, embody values shared with the armed forces, particularly excellence, respect, and solidarity. These are principles she encouraged young people to embrace in order to actively contribute to the country's development.

In a solemn address, the governor urged young people to demonstrate discipline, commitment, and self-improvement, while rejecting divisions. She also paid tribute to the women of Kédougou for their crucial role in local development, encouraging them to continue their commitment.
Addressing the entire population, she advocated for the preservation of peace, social cohesion and natural resources, while inviting everyone to support development initiatives.
Concluding her speech on a note of hope and faith, Mariama Traoré expressed wishes for a stable, united and prosperous Kédougou region, before calling for a collective commitment to an inclusive and sustainable future.

"May God bless the Kédougou region and may He grant lasting peace and harmony there. May God bless Senegal," she concluded.
