Kédougou : la DNLT démantèle un réseau de traite de personnes à des fins d’exploitation sexuelle
A human trafficking network for the purpose of sexual exploitation was dismantled on February 18, 2026, by the regional branch of the National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT) in Kédougou. The operation led to the arrest of the main suspect and the rescue of a foreign victim.
According to security sources, this operation followed the exploitation of operational intelligence indicating the presence of a trafficking victim at the ROUGEO BAR establishment, located in the village of Bantaco. DNLT agents raided the premises, leading to the arrest of the suspect in a room of the establishment, in the company of the victim, a young Nigerian national recently brought to Senegal.
A debt-based operating system
Initial findings of the investigation revealed an exploitative scheme based on a particularly burdensome debt for transporting goods. The suspect allegedly organized the victim's journey from Nigeria, via Benin, with the support of a transnational network.
Upon arriving in Senegal, the victim was forced to pay a debt of 1,000,000 FCFA. She was required to hand over all her daily earnings to her pimp until the sum was fully repaid. The investigation also indicates that the suspect herself provided guidance and training to the victim regarding the methods of exploitation.
Rapid intervention by investigators
The arrest took place just three days after the victim's arrival in Senegal. On her first night working, she had earned 17,000 FCFA from several clients, an amount immediately confiscated by the suspect. At the time of the arrest, the remaining debt stood at 983,000 FCFA.
The accused was informed of her rights, including the right to legal counsel. She is being prosecuted for conspiracy, human trafficking through recruitment and transportation for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and complicity in forgery.
Investigations are continuing to identify other members of the network, both locally and internationally, while the victim is receiving care in accordance with anti-trafficking procedures.
