Kédougou : La Journée des forces armées célébrée sous le signe du patriotisme et de la vigilance
The Fodé Ba military camp in Kédougou hosted the official ceremony for the 22nd edition of Armed Forces Day on Monday, a commemoration this year under the theme "The Armed Forces, Partners of the Youth Olympic Games, Dakar-2026".
Chaired by the governor of Kédougou, this day was marked by a strong moment of communion between the people and the defense and security forces (FDS).
An open day to bring the army closer to the citizens
The celebration, organized as an open house at the barracks of the 34th Infantry Battalion, began at 9:30 a.m. with a solemn military ceremony followed by an impressive parade. Visitors were then able to explore the various booths of the defense and security forces, highlighting their expertise, missions, and daily commitment to protecting the national territory.
This educational approach aimed to bring the army closer to citizens, to make its role in preserving peace better understood, and to strengthen trust between the population and the military.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the governor delivered a powerful message to the press. Mariama Traoré praised the remarkable work of the security forces, while calling for increased vigilance in this border region. "This is a day on the national calendar dedicated to paying tribute to our defense and security forces for the tireless work they carry out every day to guarantee peace and stability in our country," the governor stated.
Aware of the security challenges specific to this strategic area in southeastern Senegal, she emphasized the importance of collaboration between the local population and the security forces: "The Kédougou region, due to its border location with two countries experiencing political instability, must increase its vigilance. I therefore urge our people to work hand in hand with the security forces to preserve peace and security in this part of the territory."
Speaking on the theme of this edition, the state representative emphasized the relevance of the link between military values and those of Olympism: "This year's theme perfectly illustrates the common values between our armed forces and the Olympic spirit: discipline, teamwork, rigor and pushing beyond one's limits. These principles guide the daily actions of our military personnel."
She also expressed her gratitude to the men and women in uniform: "I commend their commitment, availability and professionalism, as well as the sacrifices they make to ensure the safety of the people of Kédougou and all of Senegal."
A moment of pride and national unity
Armed Forces Day is an annual opportunity for the entire nation to express its gratitude to its soldiers, the true guarantors of peace and stability in the country. In Kédougou, this celebration highlighted the close relationship between the army and the population, in a spirit of patriotism, solidarity, and national pride.
As Senegal prepares to host the Dakar-2026 Youth Olympic Games, this 22nd edition serves as a reminder more than ever of the crucial role of the army in promoting the values of unity, discipline and excellence in service to the nation.
