Kédougou : Managem lance la production d’or à Boto et confirme son ambition en Afrique de l’Ouest

The Managem group has announced the release of the first gold bar from the Boto mine, located in the commune of Madina Baffé, in the Kédougou region. This event marks the site's official entry into production and represents a major milestone in the Moroccan group's gold strategy, strengthening its presence in West Africa.

An investment of 350 million euros

The result of a colossal investment of €350 million, the Boto mine is one of Senegal's most ambitious mining projects. It aims to produce an average annual output of 160,000 ounces of gold, or approximately 5 tonnes, over the first three years. Its reserves are estimated at 1.8 million ounces (nearly 56 tonnes), with a mine life of approximately 12 years.

The site includes an open-pit mine capable of extracting 35 million tons of rock per year and a modern processing plant with a capacity of 2.75 million tons of ore per year. The project also includes several infrastructure projects: a 23 MW power plant, a water dam, a tailings dam, a fuel depot, a living quarters, an airstrip, and an internal road network.

A local development engine

At the height of construction, the project employed more than 2,500 people, 90% of whom were Senegalese. Ultimately, the mine is expected to generate more than 1,500 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the region's economic and social development.

In accordance with its corporate social responsibility policy, Managem has incorporated a community action program from the outset. This has helped improve access to drinking water and healthcare, strengthen vocational training, and support the employability of young people and women. Income-generating projects have also been launched to benefit local communities.

The vision of the Managem group

Imad Toumi, the group's Chairman and CEO, welcomed this historic milestone: "I am pleased to see this project, so eagerly awaited by local communities, come to fruition. The launch of Boto illustrates our ambition to become a leading gold mining player in West Africa. This success is first and foremost the result of the exceptional mobilization of our teams, in close collaboration with the Senegalese authorities. It is fully in line with our vision of sustainable growth, based on operational excellence, respect for the environment, and attention to local communities."

A new era for Senegalese gold

With the start of production at the Boto mine, Senegal confirms its position as an emerging player in the West African gold sector. This project, with its high economic and social added value, opens up new prospects for the Kédougou region, at the heart of the Senegalese-Malian gold belt.
