Kédougou : Un ressortissant nigérian et sa complice condamnés pour proxénétisme
The High Court of Kédougou delivered its verdict last Thursday in a pimping case involving two Nigerian nationals based in Kharakhéna, a locality in the commune of Bambou, in the department of Saraya.
The defendants, D. Egiké Echéou, 41, and B. Mariayna, were found guilty of pimping. Echéou was sentenced to six months in prison, while his accomplice received a three-month sentence.
A revealing raid by law enforcement
The events date back to the night of October 13, 2025. That evening, a raid by the defense and security forces (FDS) in Kharakhéna led to the discovery, at the home of D. Egiké, of several young women suspected of engaging in prostitution.
During the search, officers found a notebook belonging to B. Mariayna, in which were recorded the daily payments of 2,000 CFA francs made by these women. Investigators interpreted this discovery as evidence of a structured prostitution ring.
On the other hand, D. Egiké Echéou tried to defend himself by explaining that these payments simply represented a contribution to the rent, rejecting any involvement in prostitution.
A legal battle over the procedure
At the start of the trial, Mr. Ndiaye, the defense lawyer, raised an objection of nullity of the investigation report, arguing that the home visit carried out by the law enforcement had not complied with the legal provisions of Article 101 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CPP).
But the public prosecutor objected, arguing that this exception was inadmissible since the intervention of the security forces occurred in a case of flagrant offense. He also clarified that Article 68 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, invoked by the defense, was inapplicable in this specific case.
The court's verdict
After deliberation, the court rejected the objection of nullity and found the two defendants guilty of pimping. The judge sentenced D. Egiké Echéou to six months' imprisonment and B. Mariayna to three months.
This decision is part of the fight undertaken by the judicial authorities of Kédougou against pimping and sexual exploitation, phenomena which are on the rise in certain mining areas of southeastern Senegal.
