Keur Massar- Mbour : La Gendarmerie saisit 8 tonnes de denrées périmées et près de 500 kg de chanvre indien

As part of their anti-crime action plan, several units of the National Gendarmerie carried out large-scale operations this week, resulting in significant seizures of unfit products and narcotics.

Seizure of 8 tonnes of expired food in Keur Massar

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Keur Massar Research Brigade made a major seizure of eight tons of unfit food. The operation, conducted in close collaboration with the Keur Massar Departmental Trade Service, followed intelligence reports indicating the circulation of products with expiration dates dating back to 2022.

Investigations led to the discovery of a large stock of powdered spices (garlic and chili) repackaged in 25-kilogram boxes. The value of the seized goods is estimated at twelve million CFA francs, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.

Interception of nearly 500 kg of Indian hemp off the coast of Nianing

In another register, the Mbour Gendarmerie Company had deployed a surveillance device between Pointe Sarène and Mbodiène, following the trail of a probable landing of a large quantity of Indian hemp. The information indicated that the drug was to be landed at Ndioudiouf (commune of Thiadiaye) before being transported to its final destination.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the operation put in place by the brigades of Nianing, Joal, Thiadaye, Sandiara and the Saly Research Brigade, in conjunction with the intelligence services and the Environment Section, bore fruit. A canoe carrying 482.95 kg of Indian hemp, carefully packaged in 18 plastic bales, was intercepted off the coast of Nianing.

The two individuals on board the boat were immediately arrested. A third person involved in the trafficking was arrested the following day by the Kaffrine brigade.

Call for citizen collaboration

The National Gendarmerie invites the public to strengthen their cooperation by reporting any useful information to the freephone numbers 800 00 20 20 or 123.

These operations demonstrate the effectiveness of the anti-crime system put in place by the gendarmes, combining intelligence, surveillance and coordination between different units to dismantle criminal networks.
