Kharakhéna : un site d’orpaillage clandestin démantelé par le GARSI 2 à Gamba-Gamba
A new security operation has dealt a severe blow to illegal gold mining in the Saraya department. On Saturday, January 11, 2026, at approximately 2 p.m., the GARSI 2 detachment, stationed at the forward operating base in the village of Gamba-Gamba, dismantled an illegal gold mining site in the Kharakhéna sector.
The operation took place during a routine patrol conducted by GARSI 2 units, which are engaged in combating illegal gold mining and protecting the environment. At the targeted site, security forces observed unregulated gold mining operations, with facilities likely to cause serious environmental and safety damage.
The results of the operation are significant. Eight (8) tricycles were rendered unusable, as well as four (4) machines known as "spitters," used in the extraction process. In addition, twelve (12) motor pumps and twelve (12) excavators were seized.
All the recovered material has been made available to the judicial team of the Saraya Territorial Brigade, detached to Kharakhéna, for the necessary legal proceedings.
This operation is part of the ongoing actions carried out by the Kédougou gendarmerie legion to combat illegal gold mining, protect natural resources and guarantee the safety of the population in the Kédougou region.
