KOLDA : Les prix des moutons intouchables
Sheep are readily available at various sales points throughout the Kolda municipality. At the large livestock market in the Bouna district, near the regional livestock office, there is a sufficient number of sheep. The same is true at the Sikilo camp de garde livestock market. However, despite the ample supply, the prices of these animals are exorbitant.
In the Kolda district, sheep prices range from 130,000 FCFA to 500,000 FCFA. These prices are considered very high by customers who travel between the two main sales points, located three kilometers apart. Faced with this situation, some customers are resigned to the situation, hoping that prices will drop in the hours leading up to Tabaski (Eid al-Adha).
However, those with more means buy after much haggling. Adding to this is the high price of a 50kg bag of hay, estimated at 6500 FCFA. These situations threaten to complicate the Tabaski celebration for some households, especially the poorest.
