During these times, the tailor is indispensable. Yet, lately, the profession has become embroiled in controversies and social judgments that extend far beyond the professional sphere.

In the capital's neighborhoods, it's hard to imagine a celebration without a visit to the tailor. "This is our busiest time. We work day and night," explains Ibrahima, who has been based in the HLM housing project for several years. Elegant boubous, custom-made dresses, matching outfits… these artisans bring their clients' wishes to life and play a vital role in the success of the festivities.

A profession caught between stigmatization and conflation.

Despite its central role, the profession sometimes suffers from a negative image. Long considered a makeshift job, it remains undervalued by a segment of society. Added to this is a new form of stigmatization, fueled by rumors and misconceptions stemming from recent social debates.

Professionals are now calling for a more nuanced understanding: "We need to stop the misconceptions. A tailor is a craftsman. His work deserves respect, period." Faced with these challenges, some industry players are focusing on raising awareness and promoting the profession, particularly through social media and specialized training centers.
