The residents of Diamaguène 2 Extension, a neighborhood administratively located in the municipality of Fass Thiéckène but effectively an urban extension of Koungheul, have expressed two major concerns. They strongly oppose the establishment of the ERA and Flexeau companies in their residential area and are raising the alarm about the quality of the drinking water.

"This media appearance comes after the sending of an open letter to administrative and local authorities, as well as a series of meetings with the prefect of the department, the mayors concerned, and SENELEC officials," stated Mr. Sylla, the spokesperson for the day. The residents maintain that their neighborhood is strictly residential, making the installation of ERA and Flexeau completely incompatible with their way of life.

Residents also denounce the lack of prior consultation and fear the negative impacts of this project on the harmonious development of the neighborhood and on social cohesion. They reiterate their status as full citizens, paying their taxes and exercising their civic rights, which, in their view, legitimizes their demands.

A cry from the heart in the face of "reddish and unclean" water

Besides land and industrial issues, the problem of water was a central theme during their demonstration. The spokesperson strongly denounced the poor quality of the precious resource, deeming it "reddish and unfit for consumption." Residents are demanding a water supply that meets the standards provided by SONES, the national water utility, which also serves other neighborhoods in Koungheul.

The representative of the women of the district, for her part, urged Mayor Alioune Badara to keep his promises regarding access to drinking water and electricity, stressing the hardship of daily life in the face of these deficiencies.

While reaffirming their strong opposition to the establishment of ERA and Flexeau, the residents say they are open to constructive dialogue with the authorities and companies involved. However, they set one non-negotiable condition: that their concerns be taken into account and that concrete solutions be found for the problems of access to drinking water and the development of their environment.
