L'Ambassade du Maroc à Dakar célèbre le 50e anniversaire de la Marche Verte avec faste

On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Glorious Green March, Mr. Hassan Naciri, Ambassador of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, organised a solemn and convivial reception at the Residence of the Embassy, bringing together the Moroccan community residing in Senegal and many Senegalese personalities from civil society.

This event, which took place on November 6, was an opportunity to celebrate a historic moment that embodies "national unity and the loyalty of the Moroccan people to their Sovereign," as the Ambassador recalled in his address. Mr. Naciri stressed that, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, "the spirit of the Green March is expressed today through a peaceful, visionary and resolutely African diplomacy," crowned by the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrines the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as "the only serious and credible basis" for resolving the regional dispute over the Sahara.

He also highlighted the transformation of the Southern Provinces into a "hub of prosperity and continental integration," and Morocco's role as "an actor for peace and solidarity-based development, faithful to its historical and fraternal ties with Senegal, a brotherly country and unwavering partner of the Kingdom." The ceremony was enriched by a moving testimony from two participants from Kaolack, who joined the Green March in November 1975 alongside their Moroccan brothers, evoking a moment of "sincere fraternity" and "unity."

Alongside the event, the Ambassador launched the "Safari Trails Laayoune-Dakar" Motorcycle Raid, a symbolic initiative bringing together Moroccan and Senegalese motorcyclists in a spirit of "adventure, friendship and African fraternity," linking two nations united by centuries-old ties. The guests concluded the evening with a cocktail reception and cultural entertainment, celebrating Moroccan-Senegalese fraternity.

This Golden Jubilee celebration holds particular significance, coinciding with the adoption of Resolution 2797 and the Royal decision to establish October 31st as a national day of commemoration, underscoring "the continuity between Royal diplomatic action and the reunifying and pacifying spirit of the Green March." Through this reception, the Embassy reaffirmed Morocco's unwavering commitment to its southern provinces and the vitality of its cooperation with Senegal, under the leadership of Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
