Le COPEGA tire la sonnette d’alarme
The Collective of Peanut Seed Exporters (COPEGA) raised the alarm about a "dramatic situation" in rural areas during a press conference held on December 23 in Kaolack. Its president, Abib Thiam, expressed his deep concerns and directly appealed to the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
According to him, the marketing campaign, which opened on November 28, 2025, remains virtually paralyzed: "Nothing has changed in rural areas," he laments. Abib Thiam cites poor seed sales and, above all, the return of the voucher system, a mechanism abandoned more than fifteen years ago. "This is very dangerous. Production is exceptionally high this year and could have satisfied everyone, especially exporters who employ more than 62,000 people and have mobilized nearly 37 billion CFA francs in investments," he emphasizes.
COPEGA is therefore calling on the authorities to take urgent action. "We are appealing to the government, and particularly the President of the Republic, to rectify this situation. Rural areas are in dire straits: producers are exhausted, unable to sell their seeds, and they are being given vouchers instead."
Operators attribute this crisis to the non-payment of state arrears, a situation which prevents them from accessing bank financing.
