L’État du Sénégal poursuit son engagement pour l’amélioration génétique du cheptel et la souveraineté alimentaire
Senegal has taken another major step in the implementation of its livestock genetic improvement policy.
A delegation from the Group for the Genetic Improvement of Pastoral and Extensive Livestock Farming in Senegal (GEPES-SARL) is currently on a mission to Brazil for the approval of bovine subjects intended to strengthen the productivity of our national livestock.
Welcomed by His Excellency Babacar Bâ, Consul General of Senegal in São Paulo, the delegation is composed of the President of GEPES, Mr. Arona Galo Bâ, accompanied by two veterinarians from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Doctors Mame Balla Lo and Mamadou Ngom.
The objective of this mission is clear: to select the best Guzerá and Girolando breed animals for their upcoming importation into Senegal. These animals will directly contribute to the genetic improvement of the national livestock, while accelerating the achievement of food sovereignty in terms of quality meat and milk.
This ambitious program includes the acquisition of:
*400 Guzerá breeding stock,
350 pregnant Guzerá heifers,
300 pregnant Girolando heifers,
That's a total of 1,050 head of cattle.*
A strong and transformative step for the Senegalese livestock sector, made possible thanks to the unwavering commitment of the State of Senegal, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and the Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Since assuming the highest office, they have consistently demonstrated the strategic importance of livestock farming in the national development vision.
This orientation is concretely reflected in the policy of the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Dr. Mabouba Diagne, who instituted a 50% subsidy within the framework of the genetic improvement program — a measure welcomed by all stakeholders in the sector.
The President of GEPES, Arona Galo Bâ, warmly thanked Consul Babacar Bâ for the diplomatic and logistical support provided to the mission, while also giving special mention to the State of Senegal for its enlightened vision and constant support.
Senegalese veterinarians working in the field play a vital role. Their presence ensures a rigorous and scientific selection of healthy, high-performing animals adapted to our local conditions. As Dr. Mame Balla Lo emphasized, all the concerns of livestock farmers will be addressed to guarantee the delivery of high-quality animals.
Minister Dr. Mabouba Diagne welcomed this exemplary initiative, stressing that only synergy of action between the State, professional organizations and private actors will make it possible to sustainably achieve the food sovereignty to which Senegal aspires.
November 3rd will remain a symbolic date: that of a decisive step in the structural transformation of our livestock farming, in service of a modern, efficient and sovereign agriculture.

Ce programme a été institué par Macky Sall, depuis 2017. Il comprend aussi un volet équipements agricoles. Depuis lors, chaque année des importations subventionnées à 50 % de l’Europe ( ANIPL), et du Brésil (GESPES) se font au bénéfice des éleveurs. Cet article présente les choses comme s’il s’agit d’une nouveauté. C’est de la désinformation. Il peut tromper certains, mais pas les éleveurs. C’est ridicule !
Il faut faire l'amélioration génétique des moutons et chiens du pastef; c'est pour sauver ce pays!
Rien de nouveau
C'est le plus mauvais jour pour le pays. L'amélioration genene se fait pas seulement par l'introduction de géniteurs laissés à la guise de l'éleveur.
Non L'amélioration génétique c'est l'organisation des éleveurs qui se fixent ensemble un 9bjectif precisbdepoids ou de production laitière puis un schéma de sélection et de reproduction de géniteurs mâles et un autres de femelles.il s'agit avant toute action de protéger la race locale d'extinction, etc.

Que des aigris dans les commentaires si ce programme a ete lance en 2017 pourquoi 8 ans apres que ca devient possible arretez de dire des anneries pareilles et felicitez le nouveau regime pour le travail extraordinaire qu’ils sont en train de faire .✌️
