Lutte contre la migration irrégulière : Une soixantaine de migrants secourus par la gendarmerie de Saint-Louis
On Saturday, May 30, 2026, around 9 a.m., the territorial brigade of Saint-Louis, supported by the surveillance and intervention squadron (ESI) of Saint-Louis 1, intervened following information relating to the presence of a pirogue stranded on the Langue de Barbarie, in the department of Saint-Louis, with several candidates for irregular migration on board, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
Initial investigations have revealed the existence of an organized international network. According to statements gathered, the migrants left the Gambian coast on the night of May 26-27, 2026, heading for Spain, after paying sums ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 CFA francs to finance their crossing.
Faced with adverse weather conditions after four days at sea, the migrants were forced to reach the shores of Guet-Ndar. Upon arrival, several of them managed to escape before the intervention of law enforcement.
The operation nevertheless resulted in the arrest of 66 candidates for irregular migration: 52 Senegalese, including two women, and 14 Gambians, including eight women.
A dugout canoe, a 60 HP Yamaha outboard motor, and two 60-liter jerrycans of fuel were seized. The investigation is ongoing.
