The Rufisque gendarmerie company dealt a significant blow to the increasing number of cattle rustlers in the Diamniadio district with the arrest of five individuals specializing in cattle theft in Kounoune. Weapons and equipment were seized. The operation took place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m.

The joint brigade of Diamniadio, in collaboration with the territorial brigade of Sangalkam, conducted a coordinated raid which made it possible to neutralize a well-structured criminal network.

Prior investigations revealed that the perpetrators had established their headquarters in Kounoune, near the power plant. This hideout served as their base of operations after their crimes committed in the Diamniadio district and its surroundings.

Thanks to the careful use of the information gathered, the police were able to locate the suspects before organizing the operation that led to their arrest.

Five individuals were arrested, including the alleged head of the network, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye. A homemade 12-gauge firearm, three 12-gauge cartridges, four machetes, and fourteen mobile phones of various brands were also seized.

On site, the police also discovered a herd of animals, which was placed under guard pending instructions from the public prosecutor's office. These animals will likely be returned to their rightful owners after identification.

This arrest comes amid a strengthened fight against crime in rural areas, particularly cattle rustling, which is a real scourge for farmers.
