Lutte contre l’orpaillage clandestin : Le GARSI 2 détruit quatre dragues sur la rive de la Falémé
A security operation carried out this Friday, February 20, 2026, by elements of GARSI 2 made it possible to dismantle an illegal gold mining site between the localities of Saeinsoutou and Bandikoto, in the Kédougou region.
According to local sources, the operation took place between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. following a tip-off about illegal gold mining activities using dredges on the left bank of the Falémé River. This equipment is regularly used to illegally extract gold, with significant environmental impacts on the waterways.
Upon arriving at the indicated locations, the elements of the detachment, based at an advanced post in Saeinsoutou, carried out an operation to destroy four dredges.
No incidents were recorded during this operation, which is part of the actions to combat the illegal exploitation of mineral resources in the gold-bearing area of southeastern Senegal.
Security operations should continue in order to limit the expansion of clandestine sites and preserve the environment and natural resources of the region.
