The national gendarmerie conducted a large-scale operation against the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Kédougou region, seizing a significant amount of mining equipment.
On May 23, 2026, the Saraya Rapid Action Surveillance and Intervention Group (GARSI 2) detachment, based in Saeinsoutou, dismantled several illegal gold mining sites located near the village of Mouran, in the Commune of Missira Sirimana. This security operation is part of the ongoing fight by law enforcement against the illegal exploitation of natural resources.
During the operation, the gendarmes of GARSI 2 seized a significant amount of equipment, attesting to the scale of the illegal activity dismantled. The haul included four motorcycles, seven generators, nine water pumps, four jackhammers, and a water pump, stated Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
Following this operation, the National Gendarmerie reminded the public that its call center remains accessible free of charge, twenty-four hours a day, at the numbers 800 00 20 20 and 123, inviting anyone with useful information to contact the competent authorities.
