Under the command of Divisional Commissioner Mamadou Tendeng, head of the Regional Public Security (SRSP), the central police station in Dakar and its secondary units carried out a large-scale security operation during the night of Friday 23 to Saturday 24 January 2026, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The police raid in the Senegalese capital aimed to combat urban crime and strengthen the public's sense of security. This large-scale operation resulted in the arrest of 173 individuals for various offenses committed overnight.
Arrests related to identification and public intoxication
Among those arrested, 98 individuals were detained for identity checks. Law enforcement also arrested 42 people for public intoxication, while four others were detained for questioning, according to Seneweb sources.
Police arrested seven individuals for possession and collective use of cellulose-based products. Simultaneously, seven other people were arrested for possession and collective use of cannabis, with six packets seized. Additionally, six individuals were arrested for possession and collective use of hard drugs; law enforcement seized one packet of Kush during the operation.
Police arrested three individuals caught in the act of theft. In addition, two people were arrested for conspiracy and aggravated robbery committed at night. Two other individuals were arrested for conspiracy and armed robbery. Police also arrested one person for domestic violence and another for breach of trust.
During this nighttime operation, law enforcement also seized 273 items for various traffic violations.
This security operation demonstrates the police force's determination to effectively combat urban crime in the Senegalese capital and ensure the safety of citizens during nighttime hours. The operation, led by Divisional Commissioner Mamadou Tendeng and his team, enabled them to check a large number of people on the streets of Dakar.
