Marie Khone Faye : « Soutenir la relève scientifique féminine africaine »
Senegal's First Lady, Marie Khone Faye, has been named patron of the 2025 International Day of African and Afro-descendant Women, held on September 8 at UNESCO in Paris. Themed "African Women Scientists in STEAM," the event highlighted the role of these women in innovation and development.
Through her representative, Magatte Diop, the first wife of Bassirou Diomaye Faye delivered a strong message, emphasizing that "the education of girls is the key to the transformation and development of our societies."
She also praised the achievements of women in science: "Throughout Africa and the diaspora, women scientists, engineers, researchers, inventors, doctors and mathematicians are leading the way. They innovate, they save lives, they inspire."
The First Lady concluded her message by calling for "investment in the next generation of African women so that they can be at the heart of the world's major technological and scientific advances."
