Mauvaise qualité de l’eau à Thiariack : les populations craignent des risques sanitaires

After the completion of the rainwater drainage canal, a long-standing grievance of the people of the village of Thiariack, in the department of Kaolack, the inhabitants have once again called on the authorities to address another major problem: the poor quality of the water distributed in the locality.

For several years, the people of Thiariack and surrounding villages have been denouncing the water supplied by the borehole located in Saré Gathy.

According to them, this water is unsuitable for several domestic uses. Residents claim it cannot be used for drinking, laundry, cooking, or even watering animals, due to the potential health risks.

Faced with this situation, many women are forced to rely on wells to obtain water, despite the difficulties and risks associated with this practice.

The people are therefore asking the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, for the installation of a new borehole capable of providing soft and better quality water in order to sustainably relieve the inhabitants.

Beyond this main demand, the residents of Thiariack also voiced several other grievances. These included extending the drainage canal to the retention basin, developing this basin for market gardening and fish farming, and expanding the water network in the area.

The women of the village also pleaded for support for the community garden through the installation of a mini-borehole, a solar pump and suitable fencing in order to strengthen their agricultural activities and improve their living conditions.
