Mbao : une opération esthétique vire au cauchemar, deux arrestations
Beautician Naya C and her assistant were arrested and taken into custody by the Keur-Massar research brigade for illegally practicing medicine and endangering the lives of others.
According to L'Observateur, they are accused of performing clandestine cosmetic procedures at a clinic in Mbao called "UMU Technologies Beauty." The newspaper, part of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM), specifies that it was at this clinic that a client, Kh. Diouf, after seeing an advertisement on TikTok, paid 500,000 CFA francs to try to get rid of an "unsightly lump of fat under her chin."
During the procedure, the same source indicates, laser beams were allegedly applied to "soften the fat in her throat." A few days later, the patient developed severe inflammation, which "ruined her life." Worried and "fearing for her life," she filed a complaint, triggering an investigation led by the "formidable research brigade" of Keur-Massar.
To make matters worse, another patient was caught "lying on the operating table, about to undergo the same procedure" when the police raided the clinic. When questioned, Naya C stated that she only had a cosmetology diploma obtained after an "internship in China" and that she had opened her practice without legal documentation after having "successfully tried to obtain authorization." She also indicated that she had hired a community health worker as an assistant. This worker, quoted by Les Échos, admitted that he was "illegally performing the duties of a cosmetic surgeon."
The two suspects were brought before a judge before being released on Monday. The medical equipment seized from the office has been sealed, the Gfm report concludes.
