Mbour : un canal obstrué au stade Caroline Faye fait craindre le pire
In the midst of the rainy season, the stormwater drainage channel at the Caroline Faye stadium in Mbour is severely blocked, threatening drainage in a strategic area. Emergency firefighters have removed bags and buckets filled with sand, bricks, and various debris blocking the structure, according to local reports. This situation is exacerbating the difficulties faced by residents facing stagnant water.
The road linking the stadium to Keur Samba Laobé, which is currently under construction, complicates traffic flow and increases the risk of flooding. This canal, a key point in the drainage network, collects water from several neighborhoods before it is discharged into the sea. "If the canal is blocked at this point, the entire neighborhood is at risk of flooding," warns one resident, worried about rising water levels during heavy rains.
The obstructions, attributed to malicious acts, have mobilized the fire brigade, who are working to restore the flow. However, local residents fear that, without increased monitoring by municipal services, the problem will recur during the next downpour. A meeting of the Departmental Flood Management Committee is scheduled for this Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the town hall, where the issue of these acts of sabotage is expected to be addressed in order to find lasting solutions.
