A masterstroke by the Malicounda gendarmerie brigade. They have brought down a formidable gang specializing in cattle rustling. Seven people were arrested and brought before the Mbour prosecutor's office, where they were placed in custody on Wednesday for criminal conspiracy, cattle rustling, and drug trafficking.
The gang has a peculiarity: according to the story in L'Observateur, which recounts this story in its Thursday edition, it is led by a 24-year-old woman named A. Diallo. Facing investigators, she admitted to being the mastermind of the gang and revealed her modus operandi.
"She reveals that she is the one who targets the sheepfold to attack before the gang raids it, often at night," the newspaper reports. "Once the crime is committed, B. Alé, her husband, and the other members of the group take care of the slaughter while she handles the sale of the meat."
A. Diallo and his men fell on August 14. The group, L'Observateur rewinds, "landed at the home of a famous shepherd living in Malicounda. The couple and three other men took advantage of the sleeping family members and managed to steal three oxen, which they had securely tied up. However, as they were about to load the animals, the lowing of the cattle woke the owner of the house and his family."
The plan falls through. A chase is launched. The attackers manage to escape, but without the oxen.
The owner alerted the Malicounda gendarmerie. The police officers then set off after the criminals. The couple and a member of the gang, D. Mbengue, were intercepted on the Malicounda toll highway in their vehicle, reports L'Observateur. The latter reports that A. Kâ and A. Mbengue managed to reach their hideout, a house in Diamaguène, rented by the gang leader. They were later arrested.
After admitting to being the mastermind of the gang and detailing its operations, A. Diallo confessed, according to the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group, that it also engages in drug trafficking. "Moreover," the newspaper reports, "during the search of her home in Diamaguène, a significant quantity of drugs was discovered along with homemade pistols, ammunition, machetes, and knives."
The couple A. Diallo-BA Fall, A. Kâ, the Mbengue brothers, "Diouldé" and "Abou" are waiting in Mbour prison to find out their fate.
