Mbour : le vendeur de Tangana libéré après 7 ans de détention pour une « maladresse »
A. Tall, a Tangana vendor, has been released after seven years of pretrial detention. The case dates back to December 25, 2019, as reported by L'Observateur, which attended the hearing.
That day, the same source details, the lifeless body of F. Ndao, a prostitute, was discovered "naked and covered in semen" on a track leading to the Saly Portudal classified forest. The investigation progressed rapidly thanks to the geolocation of the victim's phones. In February 2020, the gendarmes arrested A. Tall in Joal. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of the deceased woman's two phones, her identity card, a chain, and a wig—items that, at the time, seemed incriminating.
In court, A. Tall maintained a consistent version of events: he explained that he had found a bag containing the items on his shop table during a fair and had thought a customer had left them behind. A month later, back in his village of Nioro du Rip, he committed what he described as a "blunder": he inserted his SIM card into one of the phones, hoping the owner would contact him to retrieve his belongings. It was this signal that allowed investigators to locate him.
The prosecutor, skeptical of this explanation, had requested a life sentence, relying on the possession of the victim's personal belongings. However, the Criminal Chamber ruled that the evidence was insufficient to establish his guilt, and A. Tall was acquitted, reports the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
