Mbour : un berger menace de tuer sa mère pour... une chèvre
The Mbour High Court sentenced A. Bâ, a 25-year-old shepherd, to six months in prison. He was found guilty of violence against a person in a position of authority and attempted murder of his own mother, R. Ka.
It all began last February, recalls L'Observateur, when the young man asked his mother for a goat he wanted to give as a wedding gift to a friend. Faced with R. Ka's refusal—whom he suspected of being influenced by her younger brother—A. Bâ flew into a violent rage.
A machete attack narrowly averted
Taking advantage of the absence of other family members, he attacked his mother, hurling insults at her all day and even threatening her with a machete, the same source reports. The newspaper states that tragedy was averted thanks to his wife's cries for help, forcing the shepherd to flee.
Aware of her son's violent temper, R. Ka sought refuge at the Thiadiaye gendarmerie brigade. Meanwhile, A. Bâ, after attending his friend's wedding celebrations, went to his in-laws' house to try to win back his wife, whom he had married only two months prior. It was there that he was apprehended by the gendarmes.
"I just want him to leave me alone."
In court, the defendant admitted to the acts, citing his mother's broken promise to justify his behavior. His mother, visibly deeply affected by the constant suffering inflicted by her son, did not seek any financial compensation. Her only request to the court was that her son "leave her alone."
The court followed the prosecutor's recommendation, adds the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
