The Mbour High Court has tried two men for fraud. They are accused of deceiving a jeweler by selling him a bronze bar instead of a gold bar, reports L'Observateur.
The same source points out that the victim, Mr. T. Diouck, lost 7 million CFA francs in this scam meticulously orchestrated by L. Sène, a former mason friend, and his accomplice B. Ngom, with the participation of a woman, N. Lott, currently on the run.
The events date back to last August, the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group rewinds, when L. Sène contacted the jeweler to offer him a supposedly authentic gold bar. Seduced by the deal, Diouck finally handed over the agreed sum. But once the exchange was made, he discovered that it was actually a simple bronze bar.
In court, the defendants attempted to deny their involvement, blaming each other. The prosecutor called for strict enforcement of the law, while the jeweler demanded full repayment of his $7 million. The verdict is expected on October 28, reports L'Observateur.
