Mbour : Une pirogue convoyant 34 migrants interceptée à Mbour

The Saly branch of the National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT) arrested 34 individuals attempting irregular migration in Mbour on October 25, 2025. According to the police, these arrests followed the processing of operational intelligence indicating the arrival of undocumented migrants at the Mbour fishing pier.

An intervention team was subsequently deployed to the scene, which led to the arrest of 34 individuals attempting irregular migration. This group consisted of 19 Gambians, including 3 women, 10 Senegalese, and 5 Guineans.

The police clarified that the 10 Senegalese candidates unanimously stated they had been recruited by a single individual. They declared they had each paid 500,000 CFA francs. They then stated they had been taken to The Gambia by the recruiter, specifically to Macau, their point of departure.

As for the Gambian and Guinean candidates, the police reported that they cited another recruiter residing in The Gambia. According to the police, these migrants departed from The Gambia on October 23, 2025, bound for the Canary Islands. However, it was off the coast of Senegal that their pirogue encountered technical difficulties. This led the captain to disembark them at the fishing pier in Mbour.

When asked about the exact identity of this captain, these migrants stated that they knew nothing about him, while asserting that this captain managed to escape before the arrival of the police.

The police are continuing their investigations to apprehend the captain and the organizers.
