On political matters, Diouf acknowledged disagreements between them, notably on the issue of a third presidential term. However, he emphasized the former president's proven ability to navigate different spheres of state responsibility. For Diouf, Sall's career path is a major asset: "He has climbed every rung of the administrative and political ladder," he asserted, adding that Sall possesses solid governance experience.
Diouf also highlighted Sall's role as Chairperson of the African Union, stating he played a significant part in managing international crises and representing the African continent on the global stage. He believes this positioning makes Sall a credible candidate to lead the UN, even suggesting his profile naturally meets the demands of the role.
The lawyer broadened his argument by citing previous Senegalese leaders in major international institutions, notably Jacques Diouf at the FAO and Amadou-Mahtar M'Bow at UNESCO. According to him, appointing Macky Sall would continue this tradition of excellence. Finally, El Hadji Diouf stated that no judicial convictions weigh on the former president and argued that his international stature sometimes surpasses local perceptions. He concluded by suggesting that entrusting the UN's leadership to Macky Sall would be a strategic choice for the international community.
