Mise en service de l’électricité à Darou Salam et Taba : une étape vers l’accès universel en 2029

The Senegalese Rural Electrification Agency (ASER) officially commissioned electricity this weekend in two villages: Darou Salam, located in the commune of Sagna, department of Malem-Hodar, and Taba, in the commune of Ida Mouride, department of Koungheul.

ASER Director General Jean Michel Sène recalled that this achievement marks an important step in the vision of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, to make rural electrification a national priority.

Mr. Sène also specified that nearly 30 villages in the department of Malem-Hodar do not yet have electricity, but that they will be the subject of special attention.

"We have started electrifying villages and we will continue to do so to achieve universal access to electricity by 2029. To this end, we have already electrified 40 villages and we will continue with 360 others during the year 2025," he assured.

He also announced a review of old projects to correct the poor orientations observed and to resolve the cases of villages with electricity poles but still without electricity.

For his part, Ousmane Tambédou, on behalf of the people of Darou Salam, expressed his gratitude.

"It is a historic day and a solemn moment for us to come together today to witness the inauguration of this great project. This project will illuminate our homes, light the paths of our children, and open new perspectives for development and progress," he said.

He recalled that electricity is an essential factor in strengthening security, revitalizing schools, the health center, farms and workshops, while opening up new opportunities for young people.

With this commissioning in Darou Salam and Taba, ASER reaffirms its determination to accelerate rural electrification in order to achieve the objective of universal access to electricity by 2029, in accordance with Vision Senegal 2050.
