Mort du jeune Assane Dieng dans un Daara à Rufisque : Le maßtre coranique et sa femme condamnés à 2 ans ferme
The Dakar Criminal Court yesterday delivered its verdict in the case of the death of young Assane Dieng in 2024 at a Koranic school (Daara) in the Tacko neighborhood of Rufisque. In its ruling, the court acquitted the school's accountant, Abdou Lahat Ndiaye, of complicity. It found Koranic teacher Samba Ndiaye (30 years old) and his wife, Khoudia Seye, known as "Ya Seyda" (29 years old), guilty.
The couple was accused of violence and assault intentionally inflicted on a child under 15, resulting in death without intent to kill, with the aggravating circumstance that the violence was committed by a person in a position of authority over the victim. The couple received two-year prison sentences.
The criminal chamber also acknowledged that the civil party was not claiming damages.
During the trial on May 5th, the public prosecutor requested a 15-year prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs for the woman. Conversely, the prosecution requested that Samba Ndiaye be cleared of any involvement in the death, while still charging him with intentional violence, before requesting a five-year prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs.
As for the accountant Abdou Lahat Ndiaye, the prosecutor had considered that there was no material evidence to establish his complicity.
