En Deuil Après la Mort de Son Fils, Il Se Fait Voler 550 000 F CFA : Les suspects dilapident l'argent en Alcool et Sorties Nocturnes

The Jaaxay District Police Station has arrested five people in connection with a case involving mobile phone theft and fraudulent mobile money withdrawals. The suspects are being prosecuted for conspiracy, theft, and complicity.

The case began on November 28, 2025, when a victim filed a complaint after being robbed of his phone and money under particularly difficult circumstances. The man, originally from Louga, had traveled to Dakar after learning of his son's death in Tivaouane Peulh, which had occurred on the night of November 27.

Arriving at the Sedima roundabout around 8 a.m. the following morning, the complainant had 600,000 CFA francs in his Wave account. After withdrawing 100,000 CFA francs from a service point and putting his phone in his boubou pocket, he took a vehicle to go to the funeral home.

It was at this moment that he discovered the disappearance of his phone and the fraudulent withdrawal of the remaining 500,000 CFA francs from his account.

The investigation quickly bore fruit. Law enforcement identified the suspected perpetrator of the theft, an individual already known to police for similar offenses. An arrest operation was carried out at an apartment rented by the suspect in the Cité Mixta neighborhood of Parcelles Assainies in Dakar.

The operation resulted in the arrest of the main suspect as well as four other people present at the scene.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to stealing the phone and withdrawing 550,000 CFA francs from the victim's Wave account. He stated that he squandered the entire sum on nights out with his alleged accomplices, apartment rentals, and alcohol purchases. The phone was reportedly resold for 15,000 CFA francs on the Keur Massar black market.

The four other individuals arrested claim they were invited by the main suspect and state they were unaware of the illicit origin of the money spent. However, investigators note that these individuals are known to the police, some having previously been brought before the police for theft.

The five suspects are currently in custody for the purposes of the investigation.

    @ Mariama Diallo,
