A fisherman in his thirties died in a home in Bargny Ndiandie after tripping on a doorstep stop, according to witness statements. The Rufisque prosecutor's office has been informed and an investigation is underway.

The events took place on Thursday, May 15, 2026. Around 7 p.m., O. Wade, aged 56, a fisherman, residing in Bargny Ndiandie, went to the Bargny police station to report the discovery of the lifeless body of a certain B. Kane, aged about 37, a fisherman by profession, residing in Joal.

According to his statements, B. Kane had joined his team two days earlier from Joal, his usual boat being in port. "At his request, I agreed to let him join my fishing team," he explained to investigators.

After a fishing trip off Dakar, the team landed the fish and took a moment to rest in Bargny before preparing to head back out to sea in the evening.

It was during the preparations for departure that the tragedy occurred. While B. Kane was going back and forth between the room and the pirogue to load jerrycans of fuel, he tripped on the stop installed at the threshold of the room door, a device intended to prevent seawater from seeping into the dwellings during periods of flooding, according to Wade's version.

A man named A. Seck immediately administered first aid, but to no avail. "I gave him first aid, but it was useless," he told investigators. Alerted by phone by a man named N. Sarr, nurse N. Diop, who was exercising at the health post, went to the scene. "I found the victim lying on the ground, his head resting on Aliou Seck's legs, who was holding his tongue," he stated.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Members of the Bargny police station's Criminal Investigation Unit went to the scene to conduct the usual investigations. During a search of the deceased's belongings, investigators discovered a bag containing 28,500 CFA francs, a sachet containing an unidentified powder, and a set of keys in his pockets, according to Seneweb sources.

Following the initial findings, a medical examiner was called in to perform an autopsy to determine the exact circumstances of the death. Firefighters from Rufisque removed the body for transport to the morgue at Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Grand-Yoff. The Rufisque prosecutor was informed and an investigation has been launched.
