Ousmane Faye, a 37-year-old mason, blinded a shepherd who was herding his flock near his field. He was brought before the prosecutor in Mbour on charges of assault and battery resulting in a 90-day work incapacity.

The events for which the accused is being prosecuted date back to September 2025.

On that day, Modou Soung had led his herd to pasture in the perimeters of the fields of the village of Thiénaba Khabane in the commune of Tasset.

A few hours later, Mr. Ousmane Faye arrived in a cart and headed towards the shepherd. As the latter was gathering his animals to move away from the fields, Ousmane Faye allegedly struck him violently in the left eye with an iron wire.

Despite his injuries, the victim led his herd towards Ndorong. Upon arriving home, his parents took him to the Ndiarao health post and then to the Thiadiaye health district before being hospitalized at the Abass Ndao hospital in Dakar where the attending physician issued him a certificate of temporary incapacity for work of 90 days.

Initially, both families wanted to settle the matter amicably. The accused agreed to cover the medical expenses, giving 100,000 francs to the victim's family. A few days later, Ousmane Faye's family gave the victim another 100,000 francs.

Despite everything, the shepherd continued his treatment. A few months later, Ousmane Faye no longer honored his commitments. The victim's uncle filed a complaint against Ousmane Faye with the prosecutor at the Mbour High Court.

Summoned to the Ndiaganiao gendarmerie, Ousmane Faye admitted to chasing the shepherd from his fields but denied touching or hitting the shepherd Modou Soung. He was brought before the Mbour prosecutor's office for assault and battery resulting in a temporary incapacity for work of 90 days and the loss of use of a limb (loss of an eye).
