Nioro : la gendarmerie intercepte un berger avec six bœufs volés
The officers of the Nioro Territorial Brigade, under the command of Warrant Officer Souleymane Thior, apprehended a notorious cattle thief. The 25-year-old man was caught red-handed while attempting to transport six stolen oxen to the weekly market in Nioro.
An arrest during a security patrol
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at around 10 a.m., the Commander of the Nioro Brigade and his men were carrying out a security patrol in the Commune of Darou Salam, as part of the fight against cattle theft.
It was in the village of Keur Dary Ndiaye that they apprehended a shepherd transporting six oxen in suspicious circumstances.
When questioned about the origin of the animals, the 25-year-old suspect readily admitted to stealing them. He specified that the theft had occurred in the commune of Keur Baka, located in the Kaolack department. The man also revealed his plan: he was attempting to reach the weekly market in Nioro where he intended to sell all six stolen oxen.
An investigation is underway
The suspected thief was taken into custody at the Nioro Territorial Brigade. Following the investigation conducted by the gendarmes, he will be brought before the prosecutor in Kaolack, the location where the crime was committed.
This arrest demonstrates the vigilance of law enforcement in the fight against cattle theft.
