A departmental development committee (CDD) was held this Monday at the Ndorong prefecture in preparation for the 78th edition of the Gamou of Medina Niassene Keur Ma Diabel scheduled for January 17, 2026.

During this meeting, the heads of departments and the organizing committee reviewed the arrangements to be made for the smooth running of this religious event.

According to Ibrahima Fall, Prefect of Nioro, at the end of this fixed-term contract, "we were able to review all sectors related to the organization of this event, starting with security. Measures will be taken in this regard. Usually, this area is covered by the gendarmerie, reinforced by a squadron to cover the event itself, as well as the roads leading to Keur Ma Diabel, in addition to ensuring community safety at the household level. We have a good detachment of ASP (Auxiliary Security Personnel). Civil security is also entrusted to the fire brigade," explained the State representative.

He also addressed the current epidemiological situation in our country, specifically the Rift Valley fever and the Mpok fever. He reassured everyone that the Nioro health district, in collaboration with the hygiene brigade, will take all necessary measures to protect pilgrims and local populations. The hygiene department will carry out spraying and disinfection operations before the event.

Furthermore, the prefect focused on other concerns: "We cannot talk about the organization without mentioning issues related to water and electricity, and on this aspect, we have three boreholes."

Serigne Aliou Barham Niass, president of the Hadral Bakiria Assembly for the coordination of events in Medina Niassene, expressed his satisfaction with the commitments made by the decentralized authorities. He emphasized that this Gamou (religious festival) is organized on the instructions of the Caliph Sheikh Mouhamadoul Mahi Mbaye Niass. The theme of this year's event is "Islam's Vision of Governance."

Returning to the grievances, he emphasized the development of a bypass road between Ndoffane and Keur Ma Diabel, the main concern of the organizers.
