Ouakam : un trafic d’ivoire arrêté de justesse, l’antiquaire dénonce son fournisseur fantôme
The Urban Security Unit (SU) arrested a man claiming to be an antique dealer, A. Kounta, for suspected ivory trafficking. Alerted by the NGO Eagles about suspicious activity around the African Renaissance Monument, police set up surveillance around the site. This led to the arrest of the suspect.
"A search carried out at his shop, located in Ouakam, resulted in the seizure of 103 pieces of ivory carved into different figurines and 2 elephant tusks," reports Libération, which gave the information in its edition this Monday.
The newspaper reports that A. Kounta provided the name of his alleged supplier, but investigators, who raided his home, did not find him there. The antique dealer was handed over to the Forestry Service "for further investigation," Libération reports.
