Parcelles Assainies : le laveur de voitures tente d'égorger sa belle-sœur, le profil glaçant d'un récidiviste

The trial of Mr. Camara, a 44-year-old car washer, opened this Tuesday, February 3, before the Criminal Court. The man, with a long criminal record marked by convictions for violence in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2016, was charged with the attempted murder of his sister-in-law, A. Tall, committed in April 2021 in the Parcelles Assainies district.

An exceptionally violent attack

As reported by L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, the accused admitted to stabbing the victim several times, injuring her collarbone and abdomen. To justify his actions, he cited a need for "revenge" after being evicted from his family home.

The victim gave a poignant testimony, explaining that the accused had surprised her on her way to the hospital as she was going to have her own son treated; he had been assaulted earlier by Camara. The prosecution emphasized the assailant's determination, noting that he pursued his sister-in-law as she fled before attempting to slit her throat, illustrating a "clear intent to kill."

The issue of mental health is at the heart of the debates.

As the interrogation progressed, the same source continued, Mr. Camara's profile raised serious concerns. Between confessions devoid of remorse and confused statements accusing his sister-in-law of being responsible for the deaths of his own brother and sister, the accused finally admitted, when questioned by the judge, that he had previously been hospitalized in the Thiaroye psychiatric hospital.

Seizing this opportunity, the defense requested a psychiatric evaluation to assess the defendant's mental capacity at the time of the events. Although the prosecutor sought a 15-year prison sentence, he expressed support for the evaluation, believing it to be "the only way to definitively resolve the issue."

The verdict is expected on March 3, concludes the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
