With a score of 1.936, Senegal ranks 69th in the Global Peace Index 2025. This position places the country in the top 10 on the African scale, ranking 9th in the ranking established by the Australian think tank Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), consulted by Le Soleil.
Mauritius (1,586 points), ranked 26th in the world, dominates the African rankings. It is followed, respectively, by Botswana (43rd) and Namibia (50th).
The Global Peace Index covers 163 countries worldwide. "It is based on 23 quantitative and qualitative indicators divided into three areas: the level of safety and security (terrorism, homicides, etc.), the scale of ongoing national and international conflicts (civil war, conflict with another country, etc.), and the degree of militarization (defense budget, number of soldiers, nuclear weapons, etc.)," Le Soleil points out.
