Pêche : Le Sénégal et la Mauritanie reconduisent leur protocole d’accord

The Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy has just made the announcement. It informs the public of "the renewal of the fisheries agreement between the Republic of Senegal and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, effective November 13, 2025."

In its press release, it states that the initial protocol was signed on June 5, 2024 in Nouakchott and entered into force on July 23, 2024. It ended on July 22, 2025.

Then, the ministry reports, at the end of this deadline, the Mauritanian Party granted the Senegalese Party an exceptional extension of two (02) months, covering the period from July 23 to September 22, 2025, in order to ensure the continuity of fishing activities and to finalize discussions relating to the future protocol.

However, the Ministry of Fisheries indicates that the process of developing the new protocol has taken longer than anticipated. Therefore, following a two-month extension, the fisheries authorities in both countries have decided to renew the existing protocol pending the implementation of the new cooperation framework.

"During this transitional period, the two Parties will continue in-depth technical negotiations on improving the framework for the activities of artisanal fishermen, increasing the number of licenses and adapting the system to the needs expressed by artisanal fishing communities," the Ministry of Fisheries reports.
