Pire : Le Khalife Serigne Pape Abdou Cissé préoccupé par la cohésion sociale dans le pays
Peace and social cohesion in Senegal were at the heart of the message delivered this weekend at the official ceremony of the 123rd annual Gamou of Pire 2025 by Serigne Pape Abdou Cissé, Khalif of the family of Tafsir Abdou Cissé, a close companion of El Hadji Malick Sy of Tivaouane. According to the religious leader, citizens must engage in introspection; otherwise, it will be difficult to develop under the current conditions.
In front of the large government delegation led by the Minister of State to the Presidency of the Republic, Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, the religious leader, through his spokesperson, stressed the need to preserve national unity. "Without cohesion, there can be no progress," he emphasized.
The religious leader also urged people to strengthen solidarity and mutual support. The Khalif of Pire, Serigne Papa Abdou Cissé, lamented "a weakening of the sense of solidarity within Senegalese society." Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, for his part, warned: "If we are not united, we remain vulnerable."
The Gamou of Pire (Tivaouane department), a "flagship city of Islam" thanks to the numerous scholars and learned men who frequented its prestigious popular university in the 16th and 17th centuries, is the result of the will of El Hadji Malick Sy. Tafsir Abdou Birane Cissé, a Muslim scholar, received permission from his spiritual guide, Seydi El Hadji Malick Sy, to celebrate this religious event.
