Pire : Trois jeunes envoyés en prison pour vol de moto
Aged between 18 and 19, F. Dieng, S. Dia and S. Ndiaye were brought before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses. They were prosecuted for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery committed at night.
According to the gendarmerie investigation, these three young men had formed a gang to commit attacks in the town of Pire (Tivaouane department). They targeted motorcycle taxi drivers, ambushing them to steal their motorcycles.
These young people allegedly committed several robberies before being arrested following an attack on the young Egyptian A. Mahmoud.
That night, around 9 p.m., the victim had left Pire on his Jakarta motorcycle to go shopping. On his return, he was intercepted by three individuals who assaulted him and then stole his motorcycle.
Following this, A. Mahmoud filed a complaint with the gendarmerie to have the perpetrators arrested. The gendarmes' investigation led to the arrest of S. Ndiaye, the first suspect, who was identified by the victim. The two other individuals involved were subsequently apprehended. Charged with conspiracy and armed robbery committed at night, they were remanded in custody.
In court, the defendants categorically denied the charges. But the plaintiff reiterated that he had recognized S. Ndiaye among the three individuals who assaulted him. He therefore demanded 375,000 CFA francs in compensation.
For his part, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law.
The defendants' lawyer argued for acquittal based on reasonable doubt.
The verdict is expected soon to determine the guilt of the three defendants in the face of these theft charges.
