Plaidoyer pour une grâce royale : une organisation sénégalaise sollicite la clémence pour 18 supporters condamnés au Maroc
The civil society organisation Justice Sans Frontière (JSF) has sent an official plea to His Majesty Mohammed VI to obtain a royal pardon for eighteen Senegalese supporters sentenced in Morocco following incidents related to sporting events.
In a statement released in Dakar, the organization indicated that it was acting within the framework of its mission to promote the rule of law and protect fundamental rights. JSF emphasized that the court decisions concerning the supporters from Senegal are now final, as those involved have waived their right to pursue all available appeals.
A request based on Moroccan legal provisions
In its correspondence addressed to the Moroccan sovereign, JSF points out that the Kingdom's Constitution grants the King the power to grant pardons. The organization specifies that the convictions were handed down based on provisions of the Moroccan Penal Code relating to violence committed during sporting competitions or events.
According to the document, this situation now opens the way to a possible measure of royal clemency.
"If there is no fighter, the battle must stop," the statement said to illustrate the approach taken after the exhaustion of the legal process.
This approach is in keeping with the spirit of relations between Dakar and Rabat.
The Senegalese organization emphasizes the respectful nature of its request with regard to the sovereignty of Moroccan courts. It also indicates that this initiative is in keeping with the tradition of historical, diplomatic, and spiritual relations between the two countries.
The president of JSF, El Amath Thiam, expresses the hope that this humanitarian request will receive kind attention from the Moroccan authorities, in a spirit of fraternity and cooperation.
This plea comes at a time when civil society organizations are increasing their initiatives to provide legal assistance and protection to Senegalese nationals facing legal proceedings abroad.
