Point E : « l’Arsène Lupin tropical » neutralisé
PI Dia, 53, nicknamed "the Tropical Arsène Lupin," is a notorious repeat offender long sought by police and gendarmes for a series of sophisticated thefts and burglaries. In its Tuesday, November 4th edition, L'Observateur reports that the Point E police have apprehended the repeat offender, who specialized in stealing from large companies. His latest crimes targeted Karpowership Sénégal, Sablux Immo, Cofina, and Sonatel Point E.
Representatives of these companies filed a complaint after noticing the disappearance of computers and phones during break times. Surveillance videos identified an individual unknown to staff, who was later identified as Dia, according to the same source.
The newspaper adds that the investigation revealed the suspect was actively being sought for similar offenses. "That's why the police issued a report and submitted the photo of the mysterious fugitive to several organizations for review," L'Observateur notes.
This strategy paid off, according to the newspaper: on October 22nd, the police were alerted to his presence at a computer company near the university, where he was preparing to steal computers. He was arrested on the spot.
During his confrontation with the victims, Dia explained his modus operandi: he chose the companies to visit and acted during breaks, pretending to offer IT maintenance services. He was brought before the prosecutor's office after his police custody.
