Point-E : Suspendu au vide au 8e étage, un ouvrier nigérien frôle le pire !
A workplace accident occurred on a construction site in the Point-E district, near the Ministry of Labor. A laborer of Nigerian nationality narrowly escaped death before being rescued by firefighters.
Around 6 p.m., the Point-E district police station was alerted to an accident at a construction site in the neighborhood, not far from the Ministry of Labor. Officers dispatched to the scene discovered the victim: Mr. Salimou, 24 years old, a Nigerian national, employed as a laborer on the site.
According to statements gathered at the scene, the workers were hoisting bags of broken tiles up to the terrace using a hoist when the machine broke under the weight. Mr. Salimou, who was on the terrace at the time, reportedly tried to grab the device with his bare hands to stop it. He then found himself caught on the hoist's ropes and dangling in mid-air at the level of the 8th floor of the building under construction.
These details were confirmed by the site manager, AK Ndiaye, the contractor. The firefighters' intervention prevented a much worse outcome. With their assistance, Mr. Salimou was able to descend the building via the stairs. He had an open wound on his right arm. He was taken to the Idrissa Pouye General Hospital in Grand-Yoff for medical treatment.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
